Catalyst is a long-format accelerator, providing select central Virginia-based, early-stage startups with nine months of program support, including:

        • $20,000 in grant funding

        • dedicated workspace

        • experienced founders-in-residence

        • monthly programming

        • dedicated staff

        • a large network of industry experts

        • over $50,000 in additional resources

The Catalyst accelerator program is a multi-stakeholder initiative, thanks to support from a range of public and private organizations: Venture Central, UVA Darden School of Business Batten Institute, Albemarle County Economic Development, City of Charlottesville Economic Development, and UVA Economic Development.

We leverage the resources of the wider ecosystem to not only support the select set of high-potential startups in the accelerator program, but also trigger positive impacts upon the community-at-large.

Through the first three years of the program's operation, our teams have collectively created over 115 jobs and raised greater than $11,000,000 in capital and grants — a multiple of 30x the grant support provided by the program.

The Batten Institute, a key partner in Catalyst, has been running programs to support early-stage entrepreneurs and innovators for over 20 years. Since 2000, the Batten Institute has provided a total of nearly $1.5 million in grant support to over 275 for-profit and non-profit startups, across a range of industries. These teams have gone on to raise over of $150,000,000 in outside capital.
